BMW EV Range Calculator: Find Your Real World Range
Choose a BMW EPA record that includes the wheel or tire configuration, then see the distance available between your departure charge and reserve. The table includes selected 2026 cars and verified 2027 iX3 records without treating every configuration as the maximum-range version.
Sources checked: . Ratings describe named test configurations. Results below are planning scenarios, not measured road tests.
Plan your available charge
Published values are locked to the cited record. Choose your measured range to enter a full-charge equivalent from comparable trips in your own vehicle.
100% leaves the baseline unchanged. Any other value is your assumption for the combined trip conditions. This tool does not infer weather, speed, heating or battery condition.
Include diversions. If there is no planned recharge, include the return distance too. The result cannot confirm a working charger or a passable route.
Distance within your charge window
Add a leg distance to estimate arrival charge and distance margin.
Published baseline × your assumptions. This is a planning scenario, not a new official range rating.
The default 100% departure and 0% reserve displays the full mathematical baseline. It is not a charging recommendation. Choose your intended departure charge and a practical reserve before planning a journey.
Verified baseline references
Selected official EPA records are used instead of a single up-to number for each BMW model. Wheel and tire combinations can carry different ratings. New iX3 variants or other configurations absent here should use their own owner baseline.

BMW: the wheel and tire entry is part of the baseline
EPA lists separate 2026 i4 eDrive40 entries at 333 miles with 18-inch wheels and 307 with 19-inch wheels. The i4 M60 entries are 278 and 232 miles with the listed 19- and 20-inch packages. Use the package that matches your vehicle rather than applying a generic wheel-size percentage.
BMW’s 2026 update changed the i4 performance model’s name from M50 to M60. An earlier M50 should not inherit the M60’s rating. Likewise, the 2027 iX3 50 xDrive is a separate model from the iX. Its official announcement reports up to 434 miles, while the EPA records below identify individual tire combinations.
Turn a configuration comparison into an owner plan
Compare the two relevant ratings first, with factor 100% and the same charge window. Then use a measured baseline if your normal high-speed journey, accessories or vehicle condition differ from the reference test. Do not compare one car at 100% charge with another at 80% and attribute the entire difference to its wheels.
For a used BMW, note the model year and current wheel/tire equipment before choosing a preset. If the setup has changed, the exact rating may no longer describe that vehicle. A measured baseline can still support planning, but it does not measure battery state of health or establish a warranty claim.
Use the vehicle’s efficiency tools with context
BMW’s range guidance discusses Efficient and Max Range functions and plugged-in preconditioning. Equipment and operating limits differ by vehicle. This calculator adds no automatic Max Range or heating bonus; record what a mode does on your own repeated journey before changing the conditions factor.
Compare packages using an equal charge window
From 80% to a 10% reserve, the 333-mile i4 eDrive40 18-inch EPA baseline gives 233.1 miles and the 307-mile 19-inch baseline gives 214.9 miles. The 18.2-mile difference follows directly from the two ratings and the same 70% window. It does not mean every wheel change produces an 18.2-mile difference on the road.
Calculation method and owner calibration
Usable distance = baseline × conditions factor ÷ 100 × (starting charge − reserve) ÷ 100
Arrival charge = starting charge − leg distance ÷ (baseline × conditions factor ÷ 100) × 100
The method assumes distance scales approximately with the charge used. It does not model changing speed, wind, elevation, traffic, parked energy use, battery temperature or auxiliary loads. The conditions factor is an explicit assumption; no automatic age, temperature or equipment coefficient is applied.
To estimate an owner baseline, divide the distance of a representative journey by the fraction of charge used, with no recharge between readings. For example, 75 miles using 30 percentage points gives approximately 250 miles as a full-charge equivalent. Repeat with several comparable journeys. Use factor 100% when your measured baseline already describes the planned conditions, so the same effects are not counted twice.
A positive margin only means the arithmetic reaches your chosen reserve under these assumptions. A negative margin means the chosen distance exceeds that charge budget. Confirm route and charging conditions with the vehicle’s guidance; this tool does not diagnose the battery.
Questions BMW owners ask
Can I select the highest i4 range regardless of wheel package?
Choose the EPA entry matching your model year, drivetrain and wheel package. The 2026 i4 eDrive40 records are 333 miles with 18-inch wheels and 307 with 19-inch wheels.
Does the planner add a Max Range mode bonus?
No. Follow the functions available in your specific BMW and use comparable driving evidence to set an overall conditions factor. The calculator does not certify a mode's range improvement.
